Jason and Nyree’s family touring 4X4 is a twin-locked 200 Series Cruiser aptly called ‘The Black Truck’.
When they leave their 4 kids at home the couple head bush in their modified Navara, a great looking rig that we’ll be showing you shortly, but it lacks the space and the grunt to deal with 4 kids, their entourage and a hefty camper trailer.
Enter the big black 200 Series.
Jason is proud to say that the 4.5-litre V8 twin-turbo diesel that powers this Cruiser is factory standard. He explains his decision to resist powering it up by proposing the question, “do you really need any more?”.
And that’s a fair call.
Engine tune aside, the only under bonnet tinkering has involved the fitting of a Safari snorkel and an oil catch-can.
ARB also supplied a set of front and rear lockers, a suite of underbody protection and one of their top of the range Summit bull bars, that has been fitted with a Runva 12,000lb electric winch.
With long-range touring in mind, Jason opted to fit one of ARB’s Frontier 180 litre long-range fuel tanks.
A 2″ suspension lift was achieved using a combination of Bilstein shocks and heavy duty King springs, with Cal Offroad supplying a set of their custom upper control arms. Firestone airbags are fitted to the rear coils and allow Jason to level up the rear of the Cruiser when it’s full of kids and has the camper trailer hooked up.
Wheels are 17 X 8″ Dynamic Saharas and Jason is currently running 285 70 R17 Maxxis Bighorn muddies.
The range of 12 volt additions is extensive and includes STEDI LED fog lights, Narva 225 HID spotties, an Ultra Vision LED 22″ light bar as well as an under awning mounted LED light bar (check the spec list for the rest!). It’s all powered by a dual-battery system that is controlled using a Projector dual-battery monitor.
Setup the way it is, Jason and Nyree know that they can fill the Cruiser with kids, hook up their camper and get to pretty much anywhere they want to go.
