Haval says it has listened to its customers (and the media) in Australia and channelled that information into an update for the H9 SUV.

Due to arrive later this year, the refreshed H9 will bring a boost to performance along with new safety and comfort features.

The same 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine remains up front, but it now offers up 180kW and 350Nm – up 12.5 and eight percent respectively compared to the outgoing model.

Also on the up is the number of forward gear ratios, with the previous six-speed automatic transmission making way for a new ZF eight-speed ‘box.

As a result, the H9 can now hit 100km/h from rest 20 percent faster than before, while fuel economy has improved to 11.0 l/100km.

On the safety front, blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warnings are now standard on the Premium and LUX models.

Inside, customers will find a new T-bar shifter for the auto and a new instrument panel, which features a digital speedometer – a direct result of customer feedback.

There’s also a panoramic sunroof for the LUX variant, while on the outside, the H9 gets a new front bumper and grille along with new 18-inch alloys and redesigned front fog lamps.

“Haval has always prided itself on listening to customers and I’m confident the Australian market will see they have clearly responded with the first major model update since launch,” Haval Australia’s Tim Smith said.

“The H9 has already earned its stripes with the motoring media in Australia, where it has continued to surprise them with its impressive off-road credentials. When we asked what changes they would like to see, they listed performance, better economy and new safety technology as key updates.”

Pricing for the 2018 Haval H9 is yet to be finalised, with the carmaker to make further announcements closer to the Q4 Australian launch.
