‘The Bend’ has just announced the near completion of its 4WD Adventure Park, an 80 hectare mix of rock challenge obstacles, steep inclines and descents, off camber tracks, water crossings, sand traps and off road trails.
The ‘under construction’ Bend Motorsport Park is located at the corner of the Mallee and Dukes Highways, a short drive east of Tailem Bend (on the road to Melbourne), which itself is an easy hours drive from Adelaide.
For those that prefer to fly, The Bend will have it’s own airfield that doubles as a VMax test strip, along with it’s own 30 room+ hotel, restaurant and bar facilities and large conference and function rooms.
A caravan and camping ground will be located next to the hotel and include a range of cabins, powered caravan sites and non-powered sites, a swimming pool, tennis court, and BMX tracks.
The Bend Motorsport Park is a serious facility with a massive footprint, that is being built to cater for a wide variety of motorsport flavours, including circuit racing (cars and bikes), drag racing, drifting, rally, karting and the one that interests us the most, off roading.
The 4WD Adventure Park
The 4WD Adventure Park will be used for 4X4 driver training, corporate and vehicle launches, ‘come and try’ events as well as – potentially – different forms of off road competition events and promises to be an extraordinary facility for Australian off road enthusiasts.
Who’s building it?
The Bend Motorsport Park is the creation of Peregrine Corporation, the corporate face of the well known – Adelaide based – Shahin family.
Peregrine Corporation was founded by Fred Shahin in 1984, with the purchase of a service station in Woodville. The next three decades saw the establishment of the ‘On The Run’ brand that now operates more than 130 BP sites across South Australia.
Peregrine Corporation was listed at number 14 in The Australian Financial Reviews Top 500 Private Companies in 2016, with an annual turnover of $1.09 billion. The business is now being run by Fred’s sons, Charlie and Sam.
The Bend Motorsport Park is a redevelopment of a test site previously owned by Mitsubishi Motors Australia.
