2016 Toyota Hilux – Prices And Equipment

THE ALL-NEW 2016 TOYOTA HILUX IS HERE AND WE HAVE THE FULL MODEL RUNDOWN, WITH PRICING, EQUIPMENT AND PICS.

The eighth generation Hilux is now in showrooms and while the untrained eye might confuse it with the model it replaces, there is little, aside from the badge, that is carried over.

Underpinned by an all-new, more rigid chassis, the new Hilux is said to offer increased ruggedness, while delivering a more comfortable and quiet driving experience.

Over one million kilometres of development testing was carried out on the new models, 650,000 kms of which was undertaken in Australia. A fact which highlights the importance of the Australian market to Toyota, even with a mining downturn in full swing.

A total of 31 variants make up the new range, with WorkMate, SR and SR5 specification available in single cab, extra cab, and dual cab bodies, with 4×2, 4×2 Hi-Rider, and 4×4 drivetrains available.

Standard on all variants are power windows and mirrors, central locking, air conditioning, display audio with voice recognition and steering wheel controls, daytime running lamps, and an 80-litre fuel tank.

Powertrains

The big news for the all new Hilux is a new diesel engine to replace the outgoing 3.0 D4D. The new unit is the 2.8 litre 1GD-FTV turbo diesel that produces 130kW and 420Nm when optioned with the manual gearbox or 450Nm with the six-speed auto in 4×4 and Hi-Rider models.

The 4×2 Hilux range makes do with a slightly detuned 125kW and 343Nm version of the new diesel.

A smaller 2.4 litre 2GD-FTV version is also offered in Workmate models, and produces 110kW of power and 343Nm of torque.

Fuel consumption for the 2.4 litre engine is rated between 7.1 and 7.7 l/100km with the manual transmission, and 8.3 to 8.5 l/100km with the six-speed automatic.

The 2.8 litre manages to achieve 7.3 and 7.5 l/100km when teamed with a six-speed manual and 8.5 l/100km in automatic SR5 form.

A revised 2.7 litre petrol four-cylinder now produces 122kW and 245Nm, up 6kW and 5Nm over the outgoing model. A five-speed manual sees fuel consupmtion improved by 10 percent to 10.4 l/100km.

Petrol engine devotees will be pleased to know that the 4.0 litre 175Kw/376Nm V6 is also available, but only in conjunction with a six-speed automatic.
The V6 manages a reasonable 11.5 l/100km for 4×2 and 12 l/100km for 4×4 versions.

SR5 turbo diesel manual models also include a feature called Intelligent Manual Transmission, a switchable rev-matching system that provides smoother gear changes and can prevent compression lock by blipping the throttle for downshifts.

Towing capacity is as high a 3.5 tonnes depending on specification, while payload rises to as much as 1240kg.
