When he wanted a 4X4 ute that could work and play hard, Leighton chose the TD42 Patrol for it’s legendary toughness and reliability.
Why did you choose this particular 4X4?
Why does anyone choose a TD42 Patrol! I needed a tough, durable and reliable 4X4 and the TD42 ticks all of those boxes. I also needed the carrying capacity offered by the leaf sprung rear end.
What have you built this 4X4 to do?
It’s got to do two things well. Work hard for me during the week carting horse feed and impress as an off-road tourer. I bought it and have modified it with these two requirements in mind.
Where have you taken it and what are some of your favourite tracks/destinations?
One of my favourite areas to get out to is the mid north and I’ve taken the Patrol out to Tereowie, Arkaroola and the Flinders Ranges.
Would you set it up the same again and if not, what would you change?
I’d definitely set it up the same again. I’m currently running 4 inch lift Dobinson coils up front as well as their MMR Remote Reservoir shocks. The back end is also raised 4 inches with EFS leaf springs.
I’ve upgraded the TD42’s turbo and Fuel Injection Pump with a Kinugawa 20G Turbo and MTQ 12mm pump.
If I was going to change anything, it would be giving an even larger turbo a go.
What future mods do you have planned?
I’ve still got a few mods planned including moving to a custom tray and canopy arrangement. I also want to upgrade the seats and look at giving the paint a freshen up at some stage.
