Daryl bought his Jeep Cherokee because it’s tough, looks great and came with a girl sitting on the bonnet.
Why did you choose this particular 4X4?
I’ve always thought that Jeeps are tough off-roaders and they look great as well. I chose the Cherokee because I knew it could handle the places I like to go off-road and because it had the features I wanted at the right price.
What have you built this 4X4 to do?
I built it to use for off-roading. I get out in varying types of terrain, including sand, mud, clay and whatever else I can find, so it has to get me down a beach or rutted track without issue.
To do this it’s been fitted with a 2″ Dobinsons lift kit at both ends and I’m currently running 32″ Mickey Thompson MTZ muddies.
To keep the front in one piece there’s a TJM winch bar but the interesting thing is it’s actually designed for an MK Triton and been modified to fit the Cherokee.
Where have you taken it and what are some of your favourite tracks/destinations?
I love beach driving and being able to stop wherever you want for a swim and I just love being in that environment when the weather is great. So Fraser Island is one of my favourite trips.
I also really enjoy getting out to the Wombat State Forest in Victoria. The scenery is great and it’s well known for it’s challenging bog holes and rutted tracks.
The Otway Ranges also offer great scenery and interesting tracks.
Would you set it up the same again and if not, what would you change?
I’m happy with the mods that have been done so far, I wouldn’t change those but I would like to create some extra room under the wheel arches so I can run larger tyres.
What future mods do you have planned?
Future mods include a 2″ body lift so I can fit larger tyres a snorkel and a winch. That’s it, I’ll call it done when I’ve sorted these last few mods.
Is there anyone that you’d like to thank for their help/assistance with building your 4X4?
I would like to thank a few people including Michael Robinson and MJR Fabrications for the bar work. Tait Carter for sorting the light bar installation and Jay Dickson from Auto Masters Moolap for mechanical repairs and tyres.
