Why did you choose this particular 4X4?

We purchased this vehicle as a “Tough Tourer” and being in a 4WD club it had to be excellent off-road as well.

Toyota toughness is legendary and there is the advantage that you can pick up any spares necessary while on the road on extended trips, both attributes which we considered essential.

We also wanted enough power to pull our off-road Drifta DOT camper trailer and be able to access the places we like to fish and hunt, activities that we enjoy on our trips.

Fuel capacity standard is 180L so that saved having long range tanks.

What have you built this 4X4 to do?

We’ve built the the truck to primarily be a tourer, but it’s also handled plenty of off-road 4WD club trips through all sorts of terrain.

Being able to live ‘off the grid’ for extended periods was a priority as well.

Where have you taken it and what are some of your favourite tracks/destinations?

We have undertaken day and weekend trips to many places including the Watagans, Telegherry State Forest, Wallaroo State Forest and most other tracks around the Newcastle and Hunter area.

Hunting at Wanaaring, Wellington and other areas in state Forests has been fantastic with the Cruiser being used as a ‘home base’.

Stockton Beach is literally on our doorstep so we’ve been fishing there many times.

Fraser Island is one of our favourite destinations and we are planning to return in the next couple of years.

This year we’ll be hitting the road and heading out through ‘Corner Country’ on our way to Birdsville and the Simpson Desert.

Would you set it up the same again and if not, what would you change?

Nothing…it’s great.

What future mods do you have planned?

As it stands, it’s pretty much perfect for my partner, Heather and myself although there are a few mods I have planned to make it even better. Right now I’m working on fitting a water tank and a Safari Snorkel and water cooled alternator (a weak point) are also on the list.

Is there anyone that you’d like to thank for their help/assistance with building your 4X4?

My partner Heather for being who she is, as well as helping with some of the mods.

Do you want a feature article like this on your 4X4? If your 4X4 is modified (can be anywhere from mild to wild) then our readers will want to see it. Getting it ‘Loaded’ is as easy as filling out this LOADED QUESTIONNAIRE.
