Steve’s Colorado is his weekend off-road escape machine or as Steve puts it “just something to play with on the weekends”.
Why did you choose this particular 4X4?
There were a couple of reasons that I bought the Colorado. Firstly it was the best value buying at the time and you simply got more bang for your buck. Behind the badges it’s actually an Isuzu D-max and the Isuzu’s reputation for toughness and reliability was also a big part of my decision to buy the Holden…er Isuzu.
What have you built this 4X4 to do?
I enjoy camping and getting away on weekends. Having the Colorado makes camping a breeze and means I can get off-road and visit places that I couldn’t in a regular car. I’ve modified the Colorado to better suit this type of use and to be able to deal with most of the tracks I might wander up.
Where have you taken it and what are some of your favourite tracks/destinations?
So far I’ve taken the Colorado to Bribie Island, Rainbow Beach, Emu Creek and Gordon Country.
Rainbow Beach is in my opinion, the best for beach driving and Gordon Country is great for camping and hitting the dirt tracks. There are plenty of other places that I want to see, I still have a lot of exploring to do!
Would you set it up the same again and if not, what would you change?
I’m very happy with the mods and accessories that I’ve added to-date. I can’t think of anything I’d like to change but there are more mods I’d like to make.
What future mods do you have planned?
Next on the lift is a 2 inch suspension lift and diff lockers, which between them (particularly the lockers) should increase the off-road capability of the Colorado significantly. That means I’ll be able to take on some of the more challenging tracks that I’d currently think twice about.
Is there anyone that you’d like to thank for their help/assistance with building your 4X4?
Yes there is, I’d like to thank Manis my auto electrical guy as well as Zach and Scott for putting their time into the grunt work.
