MANSORY has taken Merc’s already slightly nutty G500 4X4² and carbon fibred the hell out of it, creating what they refer to as “an incomparable G-Class for their exclusive clientèle”.
The G500 4X4², before the MANSORY ‘fluff and buff’, is a mouth watering creation and pure off-road porn for any 4X4 enthusiast. It rides high on portal axles pinched from the G63 AMG 6X6 and boasts 436mm of ground clearance.
From a purely Australian point of view, it’s let down only by the fact that there’s a petrol engine under the bonnet, even if it is a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 that outputs 310kW and 610Nm.
MANSORY hasn’t really added anything useful, unless you need help getting in, in which case the convenient fold away side step is, convenient.
The rest of the attention getting upgrade revolves around “carbon fibre cladding”, leather and something called the MANSORY Powerbox. We were too scared to ask, but apparently when combined with a sports exhaust system, an extra 46kW and 100Nm appear – poof – out of nowhere.
Cosmetically the changes are extensive, with a new front spoiler, carbon fibre bonnet, LED headlights, flanks that “are adorned with air intakes” and a redesigned rear apron. Oddly, there is even “carbon aplenty” on the roof and roof spoiler.
It’s much the same on the inside, with a steering wheel featuring carbon fibre inlay and aluminium pedals that according to MANSORY “guarantee full control over the vehicle”, a quality that should please new owners considerably.
The rest of the interior is a hand-crafted leather and you guessed it, carbon fabric, man cave of splendor and opulence.
You’ll need to put aside any whimsical notion you may have had about sailing over Big Red in your carbon clad MANSORY as, sadly, it won’t be sold in Australia.
