Why do you need a custom HiLux? In Jordan’s case it’s because adventure beckons and he’s out on the tracks or touring as much as possible.
Jordan’s Lux of choice is a 2006 3.0 D4D powered extra-cab and he’s set about upgrading it without going overboard and compromising it’s built-in reliability. With that in mind Jordan’s ‘encouraged’ the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel D4D engine with a 150hp ECU remap and a 3″ Dominator 409 grade stainless steel exhaust, a combination that provides a worthwhile performance boost.
Drivetrain upgrades include a set of 4.11 diff gears and a pair of ARB air-lockers, a recipe for track conquering traction and vehicle control.
ARB supplied the steel Sahara bull bar and rear bar, and a pair of custom made steel rock sliders protect the Lux’s sills.
Jordan didn’t tell us about his wheel and tyre choice but as you can see from the pics, he’s running a serious set of tyres, which explains the 3″ suspension lift and 2″ body lift – a combination usually selected to run 35″ tyres on a HiLux.
The 3″ suspension lift was achieved with a Dobinson MRR suspension kit, featuring trick remote reservoir shocks at both ends.
Notable 12 volt additions include a Polaris GPS head unit with Hema maps, a Wind Booster throttle controller and a dual battery system.
Jordan’s fitted a custom frame to the HiLux’s tub which supports his ARB roof top tent and awning.
Jordan’s not afraid to clock up the miles and enjoys adventuring around Tasmania and getting out on as many “big trips” as possible, which have included Fraser Island, the Vic High Country and all the way up to Cape York.
